Content as an API (CA3)

What is Content as an API (CA3)

Content as an API (CA3) provides an unprecedented opportunity for government agencies to produce, manage and share content across multiple platforms, sites and organisations, providing one definitive source of truth.

CA3 will enable agency digital teams to control the release of their information on set cycles and know how and where it was being consumed.  Cross-agency sharing, deliberate coordination of content topics and rules will be a game changer in improving the way government works.

How can CA3 be used?

Content as an API (CA3) has a range of potential capabilities to allow you to create and share information including:

  • A syndication facility for agencies to publish content and provide access and use for a range of subscribers;
  • Omni-channel capability where the same content can be published and updated to multiple sites and/or channels across all levels of government and private sector;
  • A content discovery service where potential subscribers can seek available content from the publishers;
  • A quality assurance process where internal editors and content owners can see the bigger picture - and tools to assist with review and to speed up generation of alternative formats, summaries
  • A governance framework to allow for:
    • Cross agency editor functions with supporting publishing, review and QA workflow
    • Compliance with Commonwealth and National Cabinet guidelines on data and content sharing, including metadata standards
    • Adherence to Privacy and Office of the National Data Commissioner obligations.
  • Consideration of commercial, cost recovery and/or centralised funding.

Benefits of CA3

Content as an API has numerous benefits, including:

  • Maintaining a single source of truth across multiple connected websites, ensuring that the most reliable and up to date information is uniformly available.
  • Build trust by enabling users to see where the information originated.
  • Content is designed with the end user in mind, ensuring that the final consumer has access to information in an engaging format.
  • Keep content up to date across all platforms by enabling changes to flow automatically to consumers' sites.
  • Track how your content is being used and by whom.
