Content as an API (CA3)

Content as an API (CA3) is a collection of tools, systems and processes that will support a government content hub and syndication platform.

The CA3 project is currently in the Alpha phase. GovCMS in the Department of Finance is working with industry experts to develop a prototype of this innovative, government content solution.

What is it?

Content as an API (CA3) is an enabling service that aims to create a single, authoritative source of truth. It is a collection of tools, systems and processes that will work together to create a whole of government content hub and syndication platform. It will improve the quality of and access to government content for individuals, businesses, government and machines.

With CA3, government digital content will be discoverable, shareable, and automatically updated. This means less duplication for content creators and more accurate, trusted information for users. CA3 will improve the findability and verifiability of government digital content for individuals, search engines and AI applications, providing an authoritative and trustworthy source for digital content.

What are the benefits?

Content as an API has numerous benefits including:

  • Allowing individuals to
  • Know that the information they find is reliable and up to date.
  • Clearly show where information originates.
  • Find authoritative, quality information through different channels, including AI tools.
  • Allowing government to
  • Promote collaboration across agencies, by connecting content creators and consumers.
  • Maintain a single source of truth across multiple connected websites, ensuring information is up-to-date and consistently available.
  • Build trust by enabling users to see where information originated.
  • Save time and effort by reducing duplicated content across teams and agencies.
  • Keep content accurate and up to date across platforms by enabling updates to flow automatically to consumers' sites.
  • Track how and where content is reused and by whom.
  • Increase the reach, visibility and authority of government content for AI consumption.
  • Allowing non-government organisations to
  • Sync information, making it easier to find and share reliable, up-to-date government content.
  • Build trust by enabling users to see where information originated.
  • Promote collaboration with government, allowing government and business to connect.
  • Reduce duplication of content across government and non-government websites.

What are the capabilities?

CA3 has a range of potential capabilities including:

  • A content discovery service that allows publishers to find available content, subscribe to updates, and connect with content creators, publishers and owners;
  • A syndication platform that enables publishers to access and reuse content from across government;
  • A quality assurance process where internal editors and content owners can see the bigger picture, with tools to assist with review and to speed up generation of alternative formats and summaries;
  • A governance framework to allow for:
  • Cross agency editor roles and clear publishing and review processes.
  • Compliance with Commonwealth and National Cabinet guidelines on data and content sharing, including metadata standards.

How can I get involved?

We’re always looking for people to help shape CA3 through user research, ensuring the solution is user-focused and community driven.

Your involvement could be as simple as responding to surveys posted in our GovTEAMS channel(Opens in a new tab/window), or as invested as taking part in our regular focus groups and research workshops. Every contribution helps.
