Drupal 9 update - April 2022

Tuesday 26 April 2022

There are only 6 months left until we will no longer be supporting the GovCMS Drupal 7 (D7) distribution. The GovCMS roadmap is to have only one distribution (Drupal 9) as we enter 2023.

All up, we have 100 D7 websites left on the platform. Thank you to the owners of the 62 websites that are well underway on their Drupal 9 (D9) journey. However, there are still 38 websites that have yet to commence.

If you have not already started your transition to D9, please reach out. We are here to support you.

SaaS D7 customers will need to transition their website to D9 by November 2022. We encourage you to have your website upgraded by August 2022 to allow for contingency time. The move from D7 to D9 requires a full website rebuild.

If you do not move your SaaS website to D9 by November 2022 you will be forced to move to a PaaS D7 site, and incur the associated PaaS costs. This will result in more effort to maintain your site, can expose your site to potential security risks and may jeopardise the stability of your website.

We encourage all PaaS D7 customers to move to D9 as soon as possible. While there has been an extension to the D7 end of life by Drupal, GovCMS will no longer support the D7 version of the GovCMS distribution. If you continue to maintain a D7 PaaS website, there is the potential for security vulnerabilities both for your site and our platform.  This is especially important if you have used the GovCMS D7 distribution as the starting point for building your PaaS site. You will be responsible for all code updates and security patches from December 2022.

We have recently refreshed our Drupal Services Panel. We currently have 17 approved panel suppliers who all specialise in Drupal and GovCMS. You can find out how to access the Drupal Services Panel on our website.
