Drupal 10 is on its way – not long to go now!
GovCMS is all systems go! There are so many moving parts to put in place to ensure you have a smooth transition from Drupal 9 (D9) to Drupal 10 (D10). As a result, we have decided to move the upgrade start from July to August.
If you have already booked in an upgrade time in July, please update your booking via the webform on the GovCMS website.
If you haven’t had the chance yet, make sure you’re booked in and ready to go. Please book your D9 to D10 upgrade via the webform on the GovCMS website.
This change has does not impact the end timeframe for the upgrades. D9 remains end-of-life on 2 November 2023. We are still working toward all upgrades being completed by the end of September, leaving a buffer month in October.
We’ve streamlined the D10 process to help minimise your efforts. It’s a simple 3-step process:
- GovCMS will create a D10 version of your website. We will provide you the branch in GitLab and the test environment and URL via a Service Desk ticket.
- This is your opportunity to validate the upgrade, test your website and identify and fix any issues. During this D10 reviewing period there is no content freeze on your website.
- Once testing is completed, you let us know and GovCMS will coordinate the final step to switch your site to D10.
What can you do now to get ready?
The top thing that will impact your website is the move from CKEditor4 to CKEditor5.
Changing from CKEditor4 to CKEditor5 affects every website differently. The automation scripts can’t account for all the different permutations of the use of CKEditor4. Therefore, we strongly encourage you continue familiarising yourself with CKEditor5. You will need to request for it to be enabled via a Service Desk ticket. This will enable you to continue testing in a feature branch.
If you’re comfortable with CKEditor5 and would like one less thing to worry about in the D10 upgrade, you can enable CKEditor5 as your default text editor from now.
D10 upgrade information sessions
We hold regular D10 upgrade sessions to keep you informed of the process and provide opportunities for questions. All sessions are recorded so don’t worry if you were unable to attend any. Recordings are available from the GovCMS website.
To access recordings, you must be a member of the GovCMS GovTEAMS Community.
You can register for a GovTEAMS OFFICIAL account if you are a current Australian Public Service staff member or contractor. Alternatively, request to join via our form on the GovCMS website and we will add you manually.
