The .gov.au means it’s official

Australian government websites always use a .gov.au domain. Before sharing sensitive information online, make sure you’re on a .gov.au site by inspecting your browser’s address (or 'location') bar.

Content as an API (CA3) Progress towards Beta

Content as an API (CA3) is entering an exciting new phase as it progresses from Alpha towards Beta, with new search capabilities and other tools designed to help agencies get more value from their content. Testing opportunities for GovCMS agencies are planned later this year, with more updates to come.

Our second round of agile sprints begins on Monday 20 July, with a major focus on AI search. Our team is working with Services Australia to deliver AI search for the GovCMS Community and aim to have it ready for testing in October.

CA3’s purpose is to make government content more usable and useful to people, businesses, government, and AI. CA3 is an enabling initiative. It provides the infrastructure and tools for government digital content to be authoritative, comprehensive, and timely for users. CA3 turns web content designed for human users into content that machines can use and provides the foundations for authority signalling for every piece of content.

As part of this work, CA3 has created a whole-of-government Content Corpus — a record of the content from Australian government websites, including legislation. It brings together content from different jurisdictions, agencies, and websites. It enables agencies to do more with their content than is possible using traditional SEO and analytics tools.

We are developing 5 connected capabilities for both people and machines. They will enable a series of tools and applications to make your job easier, and improve the citizen experience:

  • FIND (Finding information) AI semantic search that understands user intent
  • VERIFY (Verifying AI responses) — evaluation and verification of AI-generated responses
  • ALIGN (Aligning information) — overlap, conflict and duplicate detection across the Content Corpus
  • MIGRATE (Migrating websites and documents) — support transition from current platforms to AI-enabled architecture
  • WEAVE (Web and search analytics) — aggregated WofG search and site analytics.

These Alpha tools will be available internally to the GovCMS community as part of our service design process, to provide early access and to help us refine them.

In the coming months, we will be seeking interest from GovCMS agencies for experimenting and testing of the CA3 tools. We are looking for early adopters who have capacity to experiment, test and provide feedback for rapid iteration of the tools.

The search for a new name for CA3 is underway and we’ll soon be calling on the GovCMS Community to help shape the final choice.
