Google Analytics 4 – What it is, and what you need to do

Google Analytics 4 (GA4) is the next generation of website analytics from Google. GA4 is replacing the existing version of Google analytics, Universal Analytics, from 1 July 2023 resulting in Universal Analytics no longer collecting session-based data for your website from 1 July.

GovCMS pricing plans are based on data collected by Google Analytics. This means that you will need to add GA4 to your GovCMS websites to ensure you are not overcharged as a result of this change.

We recommend a sooner rather than later approach with implementing your GA4 analytics. Adding your GA4 code alongside your Universal Analytics code will ensure you can validate and review the views coming through.
