It’s time to farewell govspace as it reaches a final milestone as a whole of government service in December 2016. Most government agencies using the service have chosen to move to govCMS.

Hosted by the Department of Finance and using WordPress, govspace was a fast, cost effective and easy way for agencies to engage with their customers online. Launched in March 2010, the service kick-started digital transformation for government in Australia. More than 31 agencies used govspace to create over 110 websites over the life of the service.

A number of comments and stories were posted in response to news of the govspace closure, the most comprehensive from Craig Thomler on his eGovAU blog post, Farewell to govspace.

The lessons, approaches and practices gained from using and managing govspace helped agencies and the Department of Finance develop, test and launch govCMS in March 2015.

Special thanks goes out to all the staff across the agencies and service providers who helped make govspace as successful as it was.
